Fixed Prostheses (Crown and Bridge Prostheses)

Fixed prostheses are the restoration of teeth that have suffered excessive substance loss or missing tooth spaces with biocompatible materials (zirconium, E-Max full ceramic, metal-supported porcelain) fixed to the tooth or implant in a way that the patient cannot remove on their own. Covering a single tooth is called a "Crown," while completing one or more missing teeth by using adjacent support teeth is called a "Bridge."

Fixed prostheses, which mimic the natural structure, form, and anatomical position of the tooth, restore the patient's functional chewing capacity and speech articulation.

In Which Cases Are They Preferred?

  • In preserving teeth that have lost too much substance to support a filling after root canal treatment or extensive decay,

  • In cases of one or more missing teeth, when implant treatment is not preferred or is not suitable,

  • In creating fixed tooth structures in implant-supported prosthesis applications,

  • In aesthetically restoring teeth with shape, color, and alignment irregularities,

  • In restoring tooth anatomy that has worn down over time and has lost chewing height (vertical dimension).

Clinical Advantages:

  • High Chewing Comfort: Since it is fixed in the mouth, it provides a natural tooth feel and does not move during chewing or speaking.

  • Aesthetic and Biocompatible Structure: Thanks to high light-transmitting glass ceramics such as zirconium and E-Max, it provides solutions that integrate with natural tooth tissue.

  • Jaw and Bite Balance: It preserves jaw joint balance by preventing adjacent teeth from tilting into the missing tooth space and opposing teeth from extending into the gap.

The success of fixed prosthesis treatments depends on the precise preparation of the teeth (cutting technique), gingival margin fit (marginal integration), laboratory precision, and the patient's consistent daily oral hygiene at the prosthesis margins (dental floss and interdental brush).
