Removable Dentures (Complete and Partial Dentures)

Removable dentures are appliances used in cases of multiple missing teeth or when all teeth in the jaw have been lost (total edentulism), supported by the patient's tissues and remaining teeth, and can be inserted and removed whenever desired. Tissue integrity and chewing function are restored using biocompatible acrylic resins, clasp systems, or invisible precision attachments (snap-on dentures) adapted to the oral tissues.

Depending on the structure of the tissues and the number of missing teeth, they are planned under two main categories: "Complete Denture" (full denture) and "Partial Denture" (sectional/clasp-retained or precision attachment-retained).

In Which Cases Is It Preferred?

• In cases of complete tooth loss where all natural teeth have been lost,

• When the jawbone is insufficient for fixed prostheses or dental implant treatment, or when surgical intervention is not medically appropriate,

• In cases where there are long toothless spaces in the posterior part of the jaw (distal extension edentulous areas) and bridge construction is not possible,

• When a temporary prosthesis is needed so that the patient does not remain without teeth during advanced surgical or implant treatments.

The clinical success of removable dentures depends on the detailed measurement of the intraoral soft tissues and bony prominences, establishing the correct occlusal balance, the patient's adaptation to the denture, and the care shown in daily denture hygiene.
