Orthodontics

Orthodontics (Braces and Clear Aligner Treatment)

Orthodontics is a dental specialty that examines the anatomical relationship between the teeth, jawbones, and facial tissues, and diagnoses and treats tooth crowding, jaw discrepancies, and bite disorders (malocclusion).

During treatment, traditional braces (metal or esthetic porcelain) that apply force to the teeth within biological limits to help them move into their ideal positions, or clear aligners (aligners) custom-made with digital technologies, are used.

In Which Cases Is It Preferred?

• In correcting crowding, rotation, or spacing (diastema) irregularities in the teeth,

• In treating discrepancies between the lower and upper jaws (the jaw being positioned forward or backward),

• In bite disorders (deep bite, open bite, crossbite),

• In guiding impacted teeth into the oral cavity with surgical-orthodontic approaches,

• In preparing the positions of adjacent teeth before prosthetic or implant treatment.

Clinical Benefits:

• Makes Oral Hygiene Easier: Teeth that have achieved proper alignment are easier to brush and clean with dental floss; the risk of cavities and gum disease decreases.

• Regulates Chewing and Speech Function: By providing an ideal bite relationship, it supports the proper grinding of food and contributes to the elimination of speech disorders.

• Protects Jaw Joint Health: It balances the load on the jaw joint (TMJ) caused by uneven chewing forces, reducing the risk of joint wear and pain.

The success of orthodontic treatments depends on a detailed clinical and radiographic (panoramic/cephalometric X-ray and 3D scanning) evaluation, the determination of the correct treatment method, and the patient's discipline in using the appliance.
